Welcome to a new school year! There are a lot of new changes within the AMP program and through out Grossmont High School. Check out the Grossmont High School website.
Teaching to the Standards:
Our goal in the Academic Mastery Program is to align our curriculum to the California State Standards. Individuals students goals from each student’s IEP are also considered as modifications are made. Specific standards are aligned for each subject area.
Notifications:
Students will be periodically notified regarding their classroom grades. Every six weeks the Grossmont High School sends out “smoke ups” to alert parents of students who are not succeeding in classes. This includes classes within the AMP program. Parents will be notified when students grades are dropping and when they are at risk of failure. It is recommended that parents contact individual teachers to check up on student’s progress. Teachers at Grossmont High School will have their grades on line for easy review. Check out Teacher’s Web Pages for direct links to teacher’s webs pages.
Homework
Students are expected to give their best efforts in class. The Academic Mastery Program recognizes that many times homework can be a source of frustration and anxiety at home and rather than supporting our students it may create more difficulties. Our homework policy is that students will not be required to complete daily homework in AMP classess unless they are not completeing class work. Students have the opportunities to complete assignments in class and in their study Skills Class. Occasional homework may be assigned on a case-by-case basis for projects or other reasons. In that case parents will be notified. Students may have homework from other classes outside of AMP and will be expected to complete those assignments. Students who have Study Skills class will have an opportunity to complete homework with staff assistance during those times.
Make-Up Work and Late Work:
Assignments missed for excused absences will be accepted but the student must make arrangements with the teacher. Late work will be accepted for unexcused absences with a 10% penalty unless otherwise noted in the student’s IEP.
